  • A lesson for life, by Sabah Raza

  • An effectionate and loving believer, by Saqlain Imam

  • Man of principles, by Shabbir Agha

Your grandfather was a great man, and I was infinitely impressed how he always remained defiant and firm on his principled views.

May he enjoy the qurbat of his ancestors, the Ahl al-Bayt (‘a) now.

  • A pillar for the community, by Mohammad Ali Naquvi

Inna lillahe wa inna ilayhe raje’oon.

So sorry for your loss, bhai.

He was a pillar of the NJ Shi’a community. A wonderful and wise man — my late father Syed-Mohsin Naquvi was very fond of him.

May his sins be forgiven and may he be raised in proximity to the Ahlul Bayt (as).

  • A legacy for generations, by Birjees Fatima

  • The pillar strong, the steady light, by Maleeha Zahra Mumtaz

Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.

When we all gather now, it will feel so unreal not seeing him there. Walking into Genesis Court will carry a void that can never truly be filled. The waves of tears, the overwhelming feeling of missing him, and the constant thought of “I cannot believe he’s gone” bring about sadness, Yet when we remember who Baray Dada was, and remember the lessons he taught us— that everything is part of Allah’s plan and that Allah knows best — it helps guide us through this difficult time.

He taught us to honor our faith and religion—not by treating our prayers as mere rituals, but by truly understanding and reflecting on the meaning behind every word we recite.
He embodied patience and kindness, and taught us the importance of self-reflection so we could strive to become better Muslims.

A large part of my childhood was spent with Baray Dada, especially since he was in New Jersey the longest. He would come to our house, we would have sleepovers, and spend hours talking together. He had a way of making all of us feel like his own children, loving us with sincerity and always encouraging us to strive higher, go beyond our limits, and excel in every aspect of life.

Baray Dada was truly the pillar of our family. His strength, wisdom, and love shaped so many of us, and InshaAllah we will continue walking the path he led with dignity, faith, and perseverance.

May Allah grant him the highest ranks in Jannah and grant all of us sabr during this tremendous loss.A small poem I wrote for him:

    For Baray Dada —
    the pillar strong,
    the steady light
    our family leaned upon.

    A rare gem,
    precious beyond words,
    whose wisdom lives on
    in every lesson he taught.

    His guidance remains
    etched within our hearts,
    his legacy carried forward
    through generations to come.

    Though he has returned
    to his Creator,
    his memory will forever
    shine among us.

    1. A Father, A Guide, A Light, by Syed Ali Mumtaz

“O tranquil soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing (to Him). So enter among My servants, and enter My Paradise.” – Surah Al-Fajr 89:27–30

It is with a very heavy heart, I write this eulogy in loving memory of my father, Syed Muhammad Musanna Jafri. Today, we remember not only a father, but a man whose life and essence became a guiding light for everyone around him.

Abu was an extraordinary human being – supportive, encouraging, and compassionate beyond measure, and a true follower of the teavhings of the Ahlulbayt (A.S). As a father, he never imposed unnecessary restrictions upon us. Instead, he nurtured us with trust, wisdom, and encouragement. He believed in empowering us to grow, to learn, and to become people who could contribute positively to the world.

What made him truly remarkable was that his care did not stop with his immediate family. No matter how distant the relative, no matter how great the need, he always showed up for people. He carried the burdens of others quietly and sincerely, ensuring that those around him were cared for, supported, and never left alone in hardship.

This is the greatest lesson he leaves behind for us: to be there for others without hesitation, to help humanity selflessly, and to serve people for the sake of Allah SWT. His life ignited within us the same passion for charity, volunteerism, and humanitarian work. He dedicated himself to helping the disadvantaged, especially the forgotten and struggling members of society, and he inspired us to continue walking that same path.

Everything I do in life, helping others, teaching, volunteering, and serving the community, is because of the values Abu instilled in me. Any good I am able to contribute is a reflection of his guidance, compassion, and example. His life inspired me to dedicate myself to serving humanity, and those same values have now been passed on to our children, who also strive to live by them. His legacy will continue through all of us.

Abu constantly sought knowledge and never stopped learning. His thirst for understanding, reflection, and growth was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. He taught us that faith is not simply inherited – it must be strengthened continuously through knowledge, prayer, humility, and submission to Allah SWT.

Like the teachings and example of the Ahlulbayt (A.S), Abu believed deeply in compassion, justice, charity, and sincerity. He reminded us to hold firmly onto the foundations of Islam: to pray, to seek knowledge, to remove the distractions and divisions that time has brought, and to return sincerely to Allah SWT.

He was not only an exemplary father to us, but also a pillar for every person whose life crossed his path. He touched hearts because his care was genuine. People felt seen, valued, and loved in his presence.

The void he leaves behind is immeasurable. His absence has created a vacuum in our hearts that can never truly be filled. Yet we pray that his legacy lives on through every act of kindness, every prayer, every charitable deed, and every life changed because of the values he instilled in us.

May Allah SWT elevate his ranks, expand his grave with light and mercy, and grant him the highest place in Jannatul Firdous.

      Ameen.

      His son,
      Syed Ali Mumtaz

    3. The Gardener of Hearts, By Aliza Syeda

My earliest memories begin with you,
Arriving with stories, warm smiles, and treats too.
We waited with joy, for the sound of your voice,
For time spent with you, was our favorite choice.

Beyond all the knowledge and wisdom you’d bring,
Were the lessons that shaped us in everything.
You taught us that kindness is more than a word,
That the pain of the struggling must always be heard.

To look past ourselves and reach out a hand,
To leave traces of mercy wherever we stand.
To live not for status, for praise, or for fame,
But to honor our faith and bring grace to His name.

Even in age, your mind never stood still,
You sought out new knowledge with remarkable will.
Reading, reflecting, still eager to write,
Chasing wisdom and truth until your last night.

You made us reflect, you made us aspire
To be better Muslims and rise even higher.
You showed us that knowledge is a lifelong road-
A light for the heart and a strengthening load.

The simple hours shared, so gentle and small,
But now I see it was the most precious of all.
For you were a gardener in more ways than one,
Nurturing hearts like flowers in the sun.

Planting patience and grace in everyone you knew,
We grew into ourselves simply by being near you.
Your presence was comfort; your character, rare-
A man of deep wisdom, compassion, and prayer.

A century of life, you stood steady and tall,
A journey of purpose and goodness through all.
Not a moment was wasted, nor a day lived in vain,
Only service, sincerity, and faith remain.

Now Allah has called you to peace up above,
Surrounded by mercy, by light, and by love.
May He embrace you with stillness and peace,
In the gardens of Jannah where all hardships cease.

Your teachings remain, they will never depart,
They live on forever within every heart.
And may Allah, in His infinite grace,
Grant you Jannatul Firdous-the highest of place.

    4. SALUNI (Ask me before you lose me), by Syeda Asma Ali

Dada was a huge figure in every stage of my life, giving life lessons in his approach throughout the way.

As a child, I didn’t sleep well most nights. I would go to Dada and have him tell me stories all night. And he would patiently comply, without any complaints.

He taught me to read namaz at the age of 4 – it took me some time to realize I needed to read in the feminine way – I think Allah (swt) will let me slide with that 🤭.

As I got older, he first taught me to read Quran in Urdu. He always said we needed to understand the message of the Quran vs just reading for the sake of reading. A message we need to hold on to in this age of constant misinformation.

Coming into my teen tears, my inquisitive nature started to take over. My love for questioning everything came from him, and he always made sure to let me know it’s okay. Islam was not for the sheep to accept it all – it was for the thinkers to understand the why of the universe. We had heated debates regularly, but it was okay, because to him, it showed that I had a stance on something and I was thinking about the things he was saying. A lot of times these are not acceptable traits as Muslim women culturally, but I was never made to feel that way with him.

I will miss the patience and grace he showed me while I was young. I wish I could have repaid the same while he was older.

Imam Ali (AS) frequently stated, “Ask me before you lose me” (Arabic: Saluni qabla an tafqiduni). Dada emulated this trait of our first Imam by constantly having talks with the younger generations in his family in the hopes to increase their knowledge of Islam and life.

May we all follow Dada’s lead in the quest for knowledge toward the right path IA.

I want to send my condolences to the entire family on the passing of our patriarch. May Allah (swt) elevate his rank in jannah and grant us all sabr to deal with this huge loss. Ameen 🤲🏼
